Each downloadable factsheet is 2 pages long (which you could double side) and contains fantastic facts about popular classroom topics, such as animals, trees etc.

The factsheets can be used in different ways:

• As texts for shared reading with the whole class. You can project the electronic version on your IWB for this purpose or if you don’t have an IWB, print out the factsheet,enlarge to A3 and attach to an easel for reading.
• As texts to use as models for writing in literacy lessons/writing sessions across the curriculum.. You can use the factsheet initially for shared reading and analyse the structure. You can then use the structure to innovate and create a class version during shared writing (using information taken from topic work you have done in class). The children can create their own versions independently (possibly orally first, and then in writing).
• As texts for guided reading. Select a factsheet that contains the phonic elements a group needs to practise, as well as being at a suitable book band for the children to be able to read at instructional level (90-95% accuracy). (NB: children are unlikely to fit evenly into 5 groups of 6 for guided reading purposes. Children have to be grouped with others of a similar reading level, so that may be just 2/3/4/5 in a group).
• As texts for 1:1 reading. Again, select a factsheet that contains the phonic elements a child needs to practise, as well as being at a suitable book band for the child to be able to read at instructional level.
• As texts to take home. You may select a factsheet that the children have read at school (either during shared/guided/1:1 reading) or you may select a factsheet with the phonics content which needs practising, but is from an easier book band than you would use for guided reading.
• As texts for your reading corner.

The factsheets can be used in different formats:

• Electronically: suitable for whole class shared reading or guided/1:1 reading on laptops/tablets.
• Printed out onto card (double sided, as each factsheet is 2 pages long) and laminated, so each child has a copy in front of them during a guided/1:1 reading session. These can then be kept in school with other guided reading texts.

The advantages of printable reading materials:

• They are cheaper than published books, even with a similar amount of text at the earliest reading levels.
• If a text gets damaged/lost, you can just print another one.
• You can use them on tablets without having to pay an annual fee.
• You can use them for whole class shared reading (again without having to pay an annual fee).
• They can be kept by children (eg in a factsheet folder) and re-read.
• You can print them onto different coloured backgrounds for children who need this.
