Riddles

Riddle Sample

This download contains a sample Phase 5b riddle (from week 9 of Lesley's Phase 5 MT plan) and accompanying teachers' notes with a script for guided/1:1 reading.

Try using it for shared reading with your class (once they have been taught all the graphemes and tricky words in it) - you may find you can use it as a model for children to innovate on and create their own riddles during literacy lessons. Alternatively use it with a group of children/individual child (for whom the riddle is at instructional level) and use it for a guided or 1:1 reading session.

If the riddle works well for you, do let others know about them. You may consider buying the rest of a set to use with your class too.

Contact me if you would like to see more samples of the riddles.

Phase 5b Riddles

Phase5bRiddlesThis download of 6 riddles contains all the new learning (graphemes and tricky words) in Phase 5b. At the bottom of each riddle is a note of which week of Phase 5b it links to and the new learning from that week which is practised in the riddle. At the end of that line there is a guide to which book band the factsheet may fit with: Please note, these have not been officially banded – I have used my teaching experience to identify the most likely band.

Teachers' notes provide 'scripts' for each riddle, which can be used for guided or individual reading. They could also be used to inform the use of the riddles for whole class shared reading.
