Dragon's Den

Picnic on Pluto
An interactive game in which you have to feed snacks to 2 alien brothers. One alien likes to eat snacks with real words on them and the other likes to eat snacks with nonsense words on them. Foam Phonemes
From ictgames.com. A set of single letter graphemes and digraphs which, when pressed, are fired from a cannon (just ignore the graphemes that haven't been introduced at this stage). They can then be dragged onto the water to make words. Spin the wheel on the right (using the blue triangular arrow) to view additional graphemes. Useful for writing words. Suitable for the 'revisit and review' and 'teach' parts of daily phonics lessons with large groups and also the 'practise' part of sessions with smaller groups when each child/pair of children have access to the internet.
Help a Hedgehog
From ictgames.com. Click on the Phase 3 CCVC/CVCC or mixed vowel phoneme tabs (these games contain some words with consonant clusters, so are really Phase 4 games). Alternatively enter your own words. Click on the sand timer to start. A word will appear on the screen. Everyone blends and reads it and then you can press the tick and watch the hedgehog roll forwards and backwards, collecting things. The sand timer lasts just over a minute and the screen keeps a score. At the end it checks to see if you have beaten your previous score. Useful for the 'revisit & revise' or 'teach' parts of the lesson.
Poop-Deck Pirates
From ictgames.com. Another version of the 'treasure chest' game in which children have to distinguish between real and nonsense words. Suitable for the 'revisit & review', 'teach' or 'practice' parts of the lesson. Also suitable for adult initiated learning (as it prompts you to have another try if you're wrong). There are 2 tabs for Phase 4, but the following Phase 3 tabs also contain CCVCs or CVCCs (ie Phase 4 words): 'ai, ee'; 'ar, or'; 'ur, ow'.
Letters and Sounds Bingo
From ictgames.com. 2 games of bingo to play at Phase 4. Click on the link to print off the bingo cards. Select the game you wish to play, using the graphemes already taught. Push the fruit machine button to generate the first word. Get all the children to blend and read it before looking for the word on their board. Alternatively, don't use the fruit machine, just call out a word, get the children to orally segment it before looking for the word on their board. Useful for the 'practise' part of the lesson.
Magnetic Letters
A whiteboard with letters of the alphabet along the bottom. Click on a letter for it to appear on the whiteboard. Useful for writing words. Suitable for the 'revisit and review' and 'teach' parts of daily phonics lessons with large groups and also the 'practise' part of sessions with smaller groups when each child/pair of children have access to the internet. Less fiddly than using magnetic letters on a large magnetic board (if you are lucky enough to have one!).
Writing Trays
Below are links to a variety of creative trays you can make and use in the classroom for children to practise writing phonetically regular words. Select one that links to the children's interests or the current time of year, as this should motivate them to write. Either leave on the writing table or set up as an adult initiated activity for practising the spelling of particular words. A set of picture cards could be left out for children to select from and write the accompanying word. Also useful for writing activities with small intervention groups (the children would need a tray each).
