Decodable Reading Materials Matched To LaS 2007 and Lesley Clarke's LaS Programme
Description:
This folder contains an Excel spreadsheet with lists of fully decodable texts which match each phase and week of LaS 2007 and Lesley Clarke's LaS programme. I believe it is important for texts to use language models/structures which most closely resemble spoken language in the earliest phases, in order to aid comprehension. I have therefore chosen to use this as another criteria for inclusion of texts on this list, in addition to matching the phonics content, but this is obviously a more subjective measure.
The folder also contains a short pdf with information on how to use this list to match your existing reading materials and potentially select new ones - it is important to read this information alongside the Excel spreadsheet. NB:This is not a recommended book list – merely a list of suggested starting points for matching existing texts and choosing new ones. Schools should always ask publishers if they can see texts before purchasing, to ensure that they meet identified needs.

Possible Uses:

'This new collection of books contain themes which will doubtless engage KS2 readers who are still on their school’s phonics programme. The photographs are stunning and the illustrations are in a variety of styles, which provides added interest. There is some clever use of language eg You Noob in the Phase 3 text about a website king. The non fiction texts contain some fascinating facts – there were several things I didn’t know before reading them! I would recommend any school using a Letters and Sounds based phonics programme takes a look at these, as you can purchase them title by title to ensure you get a perfect match for your programme.'
