Phase 6 Suffixes
PCMs to play 10 different games of Suffix Find Your Team, each focusing on a different suffix and the related spelling rules. (NB less and ment are the only suffixes not included, as there are not enough words which follow the 'change y to i' rule for the game to be viable). This is an active, moving around game.
A spelling focused activity, which doesn't involve whiteboards. Useful for the 'revisit and review' part of the lesson. This resource contains 13 different games (each focused on a different suffix).
A monster poem for children to complete by changing the singular nouns to plural ones using the 4 different spelling rules for making plurals.
A set of cards, each showing a Phase 6 suffix. A second set of cards provides consonant digraphs containing double letters not introduced at earlier phases (these may be needed when adding a vowel suffix to a root word with a short vowel followed by a single consonant).
Smart Notebook screens, each showing ladders leaning on a tree along with a variety of root words. There are 13 screens, each focusing on one of the Phase 6 suffixes. Children have to sort the words according to the rule they need to apply before adding the suffix. The aim is to see which ladder will get them to the top of the tree.
