What you'll get:
1 year of anytime access to the workshop videos. These consist of:
7 workshops, providing a total of just under 2.5 hours of support for you across the academic year. These are broken into a total of 19 shorter sections
You will be provided with a guide to when in the year it is likely to be most beneficial for you to participate in each workshop, although do bear in mind that some children will progress at a faster/slower pace than that indicated, so you can adjust when you view each workshop based on your child's needs.
NB: The workshops are designed to support you in helping your child and are not for children to watch themselves.
Can't I just teach my child letter sounds?
Some parents/carers help their 3/4 year old child learn letter sounds, but is this really the best way to ensure they are ready to begin reading and writing when they start school next September?
It’s totally understandable that you would think that, as reading and writing obviously do involve the use of letters.
But that’s a bit like thinking the best way to learn to drive is by reading and understanding the highway code. You absolutely do need to do this, but overall it’s more important to learn the practical skills you need to actually drive a car and this will probably take longer than learning the highway code.
It’s the same with learning to read & write.
If you focus on teaching your child ‘the code’ (ie letter sounds) before they start school, you may find they don’t have the underpinning SKILLS they need to begin to read and write, as these take a while to acquire.
Your child will be taught the sounds represented by all the letters of the alphabet when they start school, so please don’t feel you need to do this with them at home during their time in nursery, unless they are showing a real interest and enthusiasm for doing so.
However there are a number of key listening skills which you may not realise can have a big impact on your child's readiness to start reading and writing. Understanding these and how you can easily help your child to develop them can have a big impact on the start of their journey to becoming a reader and writer.
How much will this cost?
You will get all the information you need to help your child master phonics in their last year of nursery for the equivalent of just £2.50 per month, which is less than buying a single cup of coffee out. As you will get access to all the workshops from the outset, you will need to make a full upfront payment of £30.
