PCMs to make grapheme fans that show just the set 1 and set 2 letters.
This single page document is a photocopy master, which can be used to make a set of fans for use in whole class/small group teaching sessions at the beginning of Phase 2 of Letters and Sounds. Each fan will contain the letters from Sets 1 and 2.
Photocopy the master onto card (each copy will make 2 fans).
Laminate at this stage if you wish to do so.
Cut each copy around the outer dotted lines and down the middle one.
Cut each half into individual letter strips (fan pieces).
Attach each set of letter strips at the bottom, using a paper fastener or exam tag.
Use the 'Detailed Phase 2 Word Lists' for sets 1 and 2 for a full list of words which can be made with the fans.
• As a photocopy master to make sets of fans for use in teaching sessions which practise GPC recognition.
• As a photocopy master to make sets of fans for use in teaching sessions which practise segmenting and spelling CVCs. NB: Small children find it difficult to find all 3 letters in a given CVC and then turn the fan around to show you. It is better to let them arrange the letters on the carpet and you can check them where they lie. In a small group session the children can sit at a table to complete this activity, rearranging the letters on the table top.
