This half term's videos are all about mnemonics to help children spell tricky words and homophones. Each video will give you an idea you can use at school if you are a teacher/TA or at home if you are a parent. You can view the videos on my Facebook Page
Makes interesting reading, particularly for those headteachers, teachers and parents who completed the survey earlier this summer.
This month's gold treasure chest resource is a set of Phase 5a Tricky Word Spelling Dominoes and a set of Phase 5b Tricky Word Spelling Dominoes. There are large versions for whole class teaching and small versions which can be used as adult initiated activities.
This half term's videos are all about phonics assessment. I realise this sounds really dull, but I will try to make them as interesting as possible! Each will focus on a different aspect of phonics assessment. As teachers we are all drowning in paperwork, so I think it's important that we limit it to what is really useful to inform our teaching. Make it fun to practise reading sentences at Phase 4 of LaS. This month's gold treasure chest resource is a set of 3 Phase 4 Instruction Cards . The children collect the things they need (using the list on the instruction card) and follow the instructions to make/draw/assemble something. There are photos the children can use to self check what they have done.
This half term's videos are all about having fun with phonics. As we are having to teach phonics daily, I think it's really important for us to make the sessions as fun and enjoyable as possible, whilst focusing clearly on our learning objectives. Each video will give you an idea you can use at school and some of these ideas can also be used by parents at home. You can view the videos on my Facebook Page
This half term's videos are all about helping children avoid making mistakes in the phonics screening check. Having administered the check myself for several years, I have identified some common mistakes which children make. It is worth tackling these head on in phonics lessons during the year in the hope of avoiding these kinds of errors. Using a puppet who makes these mistakes when reading is one technique the children enjoy. These videos will give you other strategies and activities. You can view them on my Facebook Page
